I have shopped with Amazon for many years now and, apart from the odd blip here and there, it's been pretty much OK.
The only niggles I have are that the shipping from non-Amazon sellers can be very high. Also, as a seller, their postage allowances are too rigid, e.g I sold a Playstation 2 and only after it sold, realised they were only allowing me the same postage as a Playstation game, not an electrical item. Bizarre!
Also, I have sold some really heavy books which take a huge chunk out of my sales price. As Amazon add postage and THEN take their cut, part of the postage rate goes back to Amazon anyway, so the allowance is not really what it seems.
That said, I have bought and sold with few problems so, overall, I'm happy with them. I have just learned to be careful about what I sell and read everything very carefully.
I've read some of the negative reviews and I think some are a bit unfair. If you want service the like of Harrods and Neiman Marcus then go and pay their prices. You get what you pay for and, to be fair, Amazon does pretty well. It even sorts out problems with marketplace orders as much as it can which a lot of places don't do at all. Marketplace sellers are not Amazon Employees after all.
