Bake? maybe toast

I bought this in the absence of my beloved Samsung Microwave/Toaster oven which went dead after a year. I decided I didn't want to spend too much money on another model. I am disappointed that this unit does not get as hot as the bake feature claims. I put an oven thermometer inside and even after 15 minutes the oven had not reached 200 degrees. I figure this is a slow preheat for 400 degrees. After looking the machine over I realized that a large amount of heat was escaping from the front door via the glass. I decided to put a sheet of foil like a curtain over the front of the machine, just enough to cover the front door and extend about 2 inches around the perimeter. Sure enough, I could feel a huge reduction in heat radiating from the front of the machine, it was trapped in the curtain I made. This helped the machine reach 400 degrees, and it kept my kitchen a little cooler! The toast function is good.

Another thing that bothered me was that the body of the toaster oven gets extremely, extremely hot. Don't let your kids near this when it is in use. This did not happen with my previous toaster oven.
