Author's Review
Stories of the Sea have held a fascination for as long as stories have been told. The Sea is a mystery and captures our imaginations. Clive Cussler is the current master of this genre.
Clive brings us a new 'super hero' in this novel, along with an interesting side kick. I just began reading this one this morning and am very pleased, as I have been with all of Clive's books. He is a master story teller, combining tall tales with vivid realism. The book opens with an intriguing story line to get you hooked, then switches to a sea race which introduces us to his new character. Clive gives a blow by blow account of the exciting race that makes the purchase of the book worthwhile just for that.
Clive's heros are always bigger than life - earthy characters with Bond, James Bond flash. This story, as with all his stories, does not just take place on the high seas but also includes exotic locations from around the world - and he does a wonderful job of putting you there. His stories take place on the land, sea, and air. If you read to be entertained and enjoy characters that are bigger than life, you will very much enjoy Blue Gold and Cussler's other great novels. I have read every one I can find (I went to the book store about a year ago and bought about a dozen of them and read them back to back in order), and feel he is one of the best story tellers of our time. I have never been bored with any of his material.
His book are easy to read, generally fast paced, and are hard to put down. These qualities, along with being able to tell a great story, are what I look for in books/author's. I have a dozen or so that are my favorites, and Cussler is among them.
