inspiring? yes. nonsense? no. unpractical? maybe

Date of Review:  Feb 19, 2000
Review: There have been many questions beaming around in my mind about the architectural profession, me being a student of the course. This book did not give me answers, but it did give me inspiration and hope, even if it makes one indulge in impractical...

Overrated

Date of Review:  Feb 5, 2000
Review: I must say I did get a few valuable insights out of this book. For the most part I did not get much out of Rand's shallow philosophy. This book did have stuff to say but it was way, way too long. She could have got her point across with maybe 100...

Long, Angry Fiction (Treatise?) on Architects and Humanity

Date of Review:  Oct 15, 2001
The Bottom Line: While the novelist develops characters well in this book, all of them are ultimately unlikeable and most are spouting dogma that is sickening.
Review: "The Fountainhead" is a long, long book and the problem is, too often, it feels long. Why does it feel long? Mostly because it's repeditive on issues of character and most of the characters only show great insight once every hundred pages.

It's Not About Architecture!

Date of Review:  Jun 15, 2000
Review: Celebrate True Greatness: that is the theme of this book.

Many people don't get that. This book, along with other Rand writings, has become territorialized by the Republican right wing. They would like to think they engender concepts...

This is one of my all-time favorite books

Date of Review:  Feb 16, 2001
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this book. It is well written, and contains a myriad of interesting characters. I do caution, however, not to blindly adopt or dismiss Rands philosophy.
Review: It took a few tries to get past the first few paragraphs of this book- but once I made it through the strange (to me at the time) writing style of this Russian-American author, I was dazzled.

Ayn Rand used this book (and others) to present...

One of Rand's best books

Date of Review:  Feb 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: A great book, with controversial ideas, that will deny all your previous expectations of what literature and morality should be.
Review: "The Fountainhead" is not quite as good as "Atlas Shrugged" (that is, of course, if you consider that to be good - I certainly do) but you have to look at it as a totally separate book, one that's a bit incomplete in its expression of Rand's...

Live Your Life

Date of Review:  Mar 22, 2000
Review: Life, as they say, is in the details. Few would agree with this sentiment more than Ayn Rand, who believed that the only purpose of human existence was to achieve personal happiness. In her breakthrough work,The Fountainhead, she painted her picture...

This Book is Hardly a Conservative Manifesto

Date of Review:  Jan 24, 2004
The Bottom Line: Read it when you're young, with a large shaker of salt. DO NOT TAKE THIS BOOK SERIOUSLY
Review: And I will howl at you if you take this bloated tome too seriously. I mean, the hero is a rapist and the female lead a self-loathing adulteress. Enough said.

A favorite of sophisticated high schoolers everywhere, Ayn Rand's "The...

The Fountainhead: A unique and inspirational philosophy

Date of Review:  Apr 19, 2000
Review: Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead is not a typical novel read for the enjoyment of the plot or the literary style. Rather, it introduces the reader to the author's unique philosophy of Objectivism. There is some controversy surrounding Objectivism...

The Fountainhead, the Good, Bad, and Ugly

Date of Review:  May 7, 2006
The Bottom Line: Ayn Rand is masterful in her work. It is one of favorite books of all time. If you give it a chance, you will not be disappointed.
Review: I read this book my freshman year on the request of my older sister and i have to say it has left a profound impact on me. I've never heard of Ayn Rand before but because I read this book, I ended up reading Atlas shrugged, Anthem, We the living,...
