Why I bought Canon MF4270
I needed a new laser printer for my office to replace my aging HP LaserJet. Being very fond of my ink jet color Canon all-in-one MP830, I was more than willing to give this printer a shot. I wasn't surprised then when on paper this printer offered most comprehensive feature list, covering all the features I was looking for:
- Duplex printing - a must for me
- Small footprint, very cool looking gray colour. The aesthetics of this printer are actually very pleasing to my eyes.
- Speed & Quality of Output- MF4270 is fast and efficient printing of 21 pages per minute at native 1200x1600 DPI
- Automatic document feeder (ADF)
- Flat bed 24 bit colour scanning at 9600 DPI.
- Network ready, it includes an Ethernet port so that you can share as anetwork printer.
- Built-in Fax which features PC faxing and two-sided duplex fax output.
- Great copier - it produces single and double sided copies. For example, it can take your single-sided document and produce a double-sided copy.
- Generous system tray of 250 sheet capacity
- Energy saver mode
First Impression
After a week of working tirelessly in my office I can report that it is a wonderful and a very efficient companion. Judging by my MP830, I expect from this Canon a great reliability as well. The output is crystal clear, not one jam. I am using all-purpose 20lb paper. I think I saw somewhere that this Canon's duplex feature struggles with paper over 24lbs - I wouldn't be suprised, but I don't see myself printing large quantities on anything more expensive than 24lbs paper.
One of the tell-tale sign of the quality that goes into every Canon printer is the top-notch careful packaging. I also like its power saver mode - the printer goes to "sleep" automatically and "wakes up" instantaneously. The installation was also painless, however, due to the lack of wireless networking option, I have connected it to my laptop's docking station via a USB cable.
On the "wish" side
I wish it had a wireless networking built-in or had an upgrade module from Canon to upgrade its networking capabilities to support wireless connectivity. Same as with my old MP830, there is no fax software that comes bundled with this printer and in general software is inferior to that of my old 10 year old HP LaserJet, moreover to the new HPs.
However, as far as printer goes, I did not see any other machine that comes will all the features that MF4270 offers at its price point. Even at its list price, MF4270 is a terrific all-in-one, but if you take advantage of a promotion, it is really a no-brainer.
