Author's Review
When I first saw these speakers, I knew I just had to get them. But for $100? I was skeptical. I got a $20 dollar discount, so I got these speakers. I don't want to say that I was "blown away" since it's such a cliche, but I don't know any other way to put it. Overall, these speakers are EXCELLENT!
The design of the speakers is similar to Altec Lansing's 2100 speakers. However, these are more powerful (80 Watts) and use better, more expensive materials. The I-Trigues also look better, to my opinion. These speakers are perfect for flat-panel screens. The subwoofer's port matches the speaker's finish color, making it look like "part of the group." The wired remote is too, the same color. On it is a super sleek blue light that makes it look even cooler.
Hey, looks aren't everything. The sound is equally superb. The treble is very clear. Midrange is lacking however, since there are no midrange drivers. This results in a SOMEWHAT tinny sound, leaving a gap in the audio spectrum. The subwoofer was designed for the upper bass frequencies in order to make up for the midrange. The result? Lower-end bass is absent. Most people won't care though, since the sounds that low are barely audible. Luckily, the subwoofer is powerful. Only at top volumes with heavy bass would you hear distortion. I've used these speakers in a large room, and they still sounded great from the other side of the room. The bass was powerful, and the treble and midrange (surprisingly) clearly defined. Awesome! I recommend that you adjust the bass level to about 1/3 depending on your tastes.
The sound stage of the speakers is wide and spacious. It is definitely not compressed. I don't know how they do it with such small speakers.
One thing that gets on my nerves is the inconsistency of the volume adjustment. There's a certain point where when you ever so slightly adjust it, there's a sudden jump in volume. Also, the satellites are easy to knock down. When they do, they make a loud sound. This could be a good sign though, showing good durability, craftsmanship, and choice of material.
Other than that, these speakers are excellent, especially for the price. This is the second-best speaker system I have EVER owned. My best set is the Altec Lansing ADA890, which are THX certified. The both come very close when it comes to sound quality. I will post a review for the ADA890 soon. GET THESE SPEAKERS. There are also many rebates currently offered. Now would be a good time to get the Creative I-Trigue.
