FROM THE FRYING PAN INTO THE .... WELL, CERTAINLY NOT THE FIRE!
Date of Review: Jun 18, 2004
The Bottom Line: It really makes frying easier and cleaner. What a thrill to cook things and get them done right the first time and every time!
The deep fryer I had was already hitting its 10 birthday. Yes it still worked, but it looked like it was 10 years old. I felt I was ready for a new one.
With so many on the market, I wanted one that would make my life easier but did such a deep fryer even exist? After looking around for a while, I found one that promised to do all things I would expect a deep fryer to do. I made my decision. I bought the DeLonghi Rotofryer.
I can't believe how different AND HOW MUCH BETTER the fried food tastes.
First of all, nothing was overcooked. Most of the breadcrumbs stayed ON the food instead of falling off inside the fryer. There was hardly any trace of cooking odor and it was quiet!
One of the reasons the food was so good was the fact that this little appliance has a tilted rotating basket. It makes the food cook more evenly. That's important when frying.
There's no guessing whether or not you're getting the right amount of hot oil. The built-in adjustable thermostat with indicator light allows you to set the frying temperature and lets you know when that temperature has reached its peak. Because different foods require different temperatures, the temperature control range is from 300? to 370?.
Speaking of hot oil ::: there is no danger of you spilling or splashing this burning stuff on you. There is a lid that closes for better cooking and for safety!
How often have you fried chicken only to find out you didn t leave it in the oil long enough and the chicken comes out half cooked? With the DeLonghi, there is no more guesswork. It comes equipped with a bell-ringing timer. Just set it for however long you need to cook your food and walk away. The bell will call you back when your food is ready.
Located on the bottom sides of this little appliance are two small handles for easy carrying from cabinet to counter, etc. Since one of the safety features is a cool-to-touch outside, there is no chance you ll burn yourself should you need to move the fryer from one place to another.
Ever wonder how your food is doing in the hot oil? Just life the exterior handle with the lid open or closed and it raises the basket for your inspection. How can you see the food with the lid closed? Easy, the lid has a viewing window for just that purpose.
What you don t have to worry about is accidentally knocking into this appliance and sending hot oil splattering. The lid locks but has a vapor-release vent to avoid spilling and hot oil vapor build-up. We all know how hot oil can get if you cover it. Well, this vapor-release system allows the oil to heat without overheating.
While this wonderful little fryer can claim the wonders of delectable cooking, I can tell you how easy it cleans. My OLD fryer had to be picked up and the oil poured out. What a mess! With the DeLonghi Rotofryer, the oil drainage system consists of a small spigot that allows the oil to drain from the bottom of the fryer into an oil collecting container to enable you to use that oil again and again. The oil collecting container also has a filter which means it s collecting nothing but clean oil.
With my old deep fryer, all too often, batter or breadcrumbs would stick to the sides, making clean up awkward and messy. This doesn t happen with the DeLonghi. It has a non-stick interior to make clean ups a snap!
Getting back to the odor - or lack, thereof: That's because this appliance has anti-odor filters which are replaceable. And to get you started, the deep fryer comes with TWO!
I have to admit, with the exception of my coffee pot, I don t like to keep small appliances on my counter top. I have way too many gadgets and not enough counter space for all of them. That s why I like my DeLonghi deep fryer so much. It has a detachable cord with built-in storage. I ve never seen anything like it. The cord is magnetic so if a child should be able to reach and yank it, it will detach from the fryer without pulling the fryer on top of the child. Now, THAT S what I call safety.
The cord also has what DeLonghi calls a condensation shield. What this does is protect the cord from oil dripping on it and destroying it.
So with this little wonder ready to use, just how much food can you fry in it at one time? The directions say about one and a half pounds of food but I ve put in two chicken breasts along with two legs (with thighs) and it all fried evenly and thoroughly. I know I don t have to make two onion rings at one time. I know can fry almost the entire onion at once without having each ring stick to another. ( I use the really large white onions.)
Honestly, this amazing appliance does just about everything. When the DeLonghi R&D company wanted to put together a new deep fryer, they certainly had the busy homemaker in mind.
I can't imagine my kitchen without this appliance.
