To swivel or not to swivel? Dirt Devil MVP Swivel Glide Vacuum
Date of Review: Nov 19, 2000
The Bottom Line: Tends to clog which makes me question it's suctioning abilities.
I bought this product vacuum cleaner about 6 months ago and I think that it has been a pretty cleaner for the price that I paid for it.
I bought it at Wal-Mart and it was on sale for $129 and I needed a new vacuum BAD. This had all of the features that I wanted in a vacuum cleaner. Although I want one with out bags they are a little more expensive so I figured this would be alright for now.
It has 7 different floor settings from bare floor to plush carpet. I never use the bare floor on my wood floors since it does no good what so ever. It just spits dirt all over the place and if you try this make sure that your legs and feet are covered because some of the little rocks and dirt that fly out can sting on the shins a little. I learned this the hard way.
What I do for my bare floor is either just sweep or I take the attatchment that is on the front of the vacuum (the triangle shaped one) and attach it to the hose and this seems to work well.
It also comes with a longer attachment for the hose. The one thing that I don't like about this is that it is not flexible. It is about 2 feet long and you can pull it out to be about 4 feet but 4 feet of hard plastic doesn't do much good in my case.
The other attachments include an upolstry cleaner, this works great for dusting. I put it on and vacuum shelves and around breakables just to get the top dust off before I use pledge on them. It also came with a crevice tool but that is about it for the attachments. I would have liked more but I think that I would have just lost them anyways!
It has a pretty powerful 12 amp motor and the brush seems to pick up dirt on carpet well. I don't ever see any noticable dirt left after I vacuum the carpet. The power edger works great to get close to the wall and if it doesn't get really close the hose is easy to take out and use.
One big dislike that I have about this vacuum is that when you are using the nozel and attachments, the brush it still turning. Since it does this I cannot use it to vacuum my car out, since it will spit rocks all over the place. The smaller dislike that I have is for the swivel wheels. It works great while you are vacuuming you can go in any direction. But the downfall is when you are moving the vacuum from one room to another or putting it away sometimes the wheels go sideways and won't move forward. So it is difficult to tile the vacuum back to move it you have to keep in on all 4 wheels for it to budge.
Other than the few downfalls this is a great low priced vacuum cleaner although if it breaks I will not be buying another one like it I will find a more thorough machine. I recommend this to anyone who is just starting out and does not have enough money to buy an expensive cleaner but if you have the money get something better.
