Great motivator
Date of Review: Jun 26, 2007
The Bottom Line: This is a great training aid and motivator. I ride my bike for fitness and to lose weight and this is just the thing to keep me going.
My wife gave me the Garmin Edge 305 as an early birthday gift. She knew if she waited for my BD in September my riding season would be almost over. I am so excited about the Garmin. i have just started using it and already I am setting new personal bests.
I ride to work on my Trek Portland bike about 13.5 miles each way. I have a long flat stretch of about 5.5 miles and some pretty nasty hills for the last 4 miles. The Garmin helps me pace myself on the flat section by giving me a virtual pacer. It is easy to see how far ahead (or behind) your previous best time you are.
I call it racing "yesterdave". I know that if I can get ahead of yeasterdave early and just stay a little ahead I am on my way to a new best time.
the Garmin gives you tons of other information too. Like heart rate, cadence, average heart rate, calories burned etc. It comes with software that lets you download the data and see your heart rate and speed on a graph. i can see how much of the ride was at a sustained high heart rate and where I was dogging it.
The price of these units has come down recently and I think if you are looking for something to keep your solo rides interesting and keep you moving towards your goals this is just the thing.
