EuroTech Dryer -a balanced choice
Date of Review: Jun 1, 2005
The Bottom Line: I recommend it to anyone needing a compact dryer. I'd check for a local service provider since the brand is unusual. More room, then I'd go for a larger unit.
I purchased my EuroTech dryer earlier this year when the Maytag dryer that came with the house started catching fire. So I really needed a dryer, but I had several considerations. First the house is older (built around 1960) and the utility room where the washer/dryer belong is long and narrow. It was obvious from the plumbing and electricity outlets that originally the washer and dryer were meant to sit side by side along the short wall under the window. However that wall measures only 50 inches, which means most modern washers and dryers are too big. The previous owner had moved them along the long wall by adding hoses and extension cords but besides the safety issues, you couldn't fully open the dryer door because of the room dimensions. I needed compact units, and ultimately that's why I purchased the EuroTech.
The EuroTech is smaller, and its capacity is smaller than what I have been used to. However I went with a scaled-down washer as well so that they could fit in the space, so it's all good. The dryer does a wonderful job drying everything. It has a very attractive appearance. It is very quiet and efficient. The range of selections is certainly adequate though there's not as many setting as I've seen on some larger dryers that are similarly priced.
I did have to hire an electrician, firstly to move an electrical outlet, but also to check out the drier because I could not get it to operate. He read the manual and also could not get it to run. The unit was sold to me by an appliance store, but it turned out their regular service people were not authorized to work on EuroTech, and after some hunting around, we found someone who was authorized. However I played around abit with the unit, and finally got it to operate on my own. It's very sensitive, you must regularly run a clean cloth around the door and the interior opening or the machine will not turn on. The lint trap is handily located and of course must be emptied each time you operate the dryer. When you turn the dryer "on", the setting switch must be at the start position, or you can turn it all day, and the dryer will not start, it will only beep at you. I very much like that at the end of the cycle the dryer will continue to turn the clothes every few minutes to keep them from wrinkling until you turn the unit off and remove the clothes. Also, this machine has saved me considerably on electricity. It's extremely efficient, and the old dryer heated up the laundry room and adjacent kitchen considerably. The Eurotech does not do that at all. I do recommend this machine, though there are drawbacks.
