I really wanted an SUV but wanted something that drove like a car. We already had a full size SUV so the search was on. I had considered the Mazada and Kia equivalent to the Escape but they do not compare at all. I found a 2002 Ford Escape XLT. It was only 2 wheel drive but I live in Missouri and didn't need it that much. It didn't matter, it had every other feature on it!
The one I chose was the Ford Escape XLT, 3.0 liter, V-6 engine with 201 horsepower, 2 wheel drive. It was silver with dark grey leather interior. I got about 19mpg in the city and 21 on the highway. If I used the air though watch out it dropped a few miles on both the city and highway, but I think that is true for all vehicles. When I got it it had 22,000 miles on it so still under factory warranty, huge deal I thought. I still opted to get the extended warranty, but never needed it, everytime I took it in it was still under the manufacturers warranty.
I had always read about these on the internet and looked at a lot but never test drove one. Well, when I first stepped into this car I was very very impressed. First on the looks. This car had everything I had wanted. Plush grey leather interior with 6 way lumbar support for the driver. The passenger side was manual adjustment though. It had a 6 disc CD player in it which I loved, I never ran out of music. A cd did get stuck in it but it was covered under manufacturers warranty, which was the only thing I ever had to take it in for! Also included was a sunroof, which was fabulous, I had always wanted one. It was also equipped with power door locks and windows and a car alarm, which is a total plus in my book!
The back seat is just as expected, there isn't a whole lot of room, but we never took it on trips unless it was just my son and I, we always used my husband's Trailblazer. But, having said that, you are able to put a lot back there for such a tiny space. We managed to fit a 6 foot Christmas tree in it!
Now for the driving. I loved how it drove. It felt totally like a car and you sit high up and feel some power and control like you would in a regular SUV.
To be honest I don't have a complaint about it at all, other than I had to trade it in for more room
