Author's Review
My wife and I are avid outdoor enthusiasts, we have hiked all over the world and we are always looking to get the perfect picture of the two of us. The problem we always run into in nature is that there are rarely flat surfaces on which to balance your camera and there is no one else around to take your picture!!! The JOBY tripod solves all of this problems for us!!!
Our camera of choice for hiking is the Pentax Optio S4 - not only does Pentax make a great product, but their cameras fit perfectly into an Altoids Container - a perfect camera case, especially when you are out in nature. The Optio S4 is a lightweight camera weighing only a little over 3 ounces, so we have no weight and balance issues with the tripod.
OVERVIEW:
The tripod is great in that the 3 legs that support the tripod can rotate 360° and bend in the same manner. The tripod will stand 6 inches tall, but yet weighs only 1.6 ounces. The tripod has the standard mounting/locking mechanism on top which fits most digital cameras. However, the greatest thing about the tripod is that it works!!! We have put it to trial in nature, and we are now getting those picture postcard shots on the first try rather than trying to balance the camera on tress or rocks. The bendable rubber and plastic legs can wrap themselves around branches, can straddle rocks, and can be used in mud. You can even hang your camera from a tree to take the picture!!! We have yet to find a situation that we have not been able to make this tripod work. The added benefit of the flexible structure is you can condense the tripod into a very small size for packing. Not only does it weigh next to nothing, but it takes up virtually no room in your backpack. It is very durable, and is a snap to clean with soap and water. After having used it just once, I do not know how I got along without it.
RECOMMENDATION:
This is a must for any outdoor enthusiast who travels with a compact digital camera - this will make previously impossible pictures, possible.
