Author's Review
It's magazines like Game Informer that make me happy to go to the mailbox. While I have subscriptions to many magazines (especially gaming ones), I have to confess that GI is one of my favorites. Easy to read, non-distracting layout, and lots of great articles make this a good gaming magazine.
Articles - The GI articles are always well written and informative. No fluff or stupid humor, either. For some reason, many gaming magazines think that it is cool or funny to have long running, inside jokes that the consumer does not understand. I am happy to report that GI does none of this and they stick to the facts. Articles are well written and easy to follow.
Previews and Tips - These are pretty much standard in gaming magazines nowadays, and GI does a great job telling readers what is coming up and how to beat the games they already have. Many codes for the GameShark are also provided and all codes are spread out through all gaming platforms (PSX, GBC, Sega, N64).
Reviews - Honest and reliable. With so many games to choose from (and many costing quite a bit), the consumer needs a well informed reviewer who knows how to rate and review games. Again, GI hits the mark and always delivers reliable and unbiased reviews.
Staff - The writing staff of GI are well-rounded and well-informed. No goofballs here. Nice, professional people who truly enjoy gaming and make even reading about it fun.
Layout - Great! One of the best parts about the magazine is that it is not full of ads, like many other gaming mags (which is why GI is much thinner than its competitors). Yes, I understand that ads pay for the magazine, but I would rather have a smaller magazine that is informative rather than a bigger one that is basically a shopping catalog.
Overall, a great magazine that I look forward to every month. Simple, easy to read and understand. GI makes me happy to be a subscriber, without having to page through tons of ads to get the gaming information I want.
