Not reliable

Date of Review:  Aug 15, 2005
Review: I have had 4 of these units now over the past two years...and each one has broken after several months - year use. You'd think I'd learn my lesson and get a different brand or model that was more reliable! Thankfully I bought them at REI that allows...

Pardon me, Ma?am, but which way is Johnsondale?

Date of Review:  May 30, 2004
The Bottom Line: There are several interesting screens on this device, all of which will keep you happily amused as you wander around, lost, in the mountains.
Review: The Garmin Etrex Legend is a small, very lightweight, handheld GPS navigation device designed for use by hikers, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and the like. The basic package consists of the device itself, a wrist-strap, serial cable for computer...

Lousy customer support

Date of Review:  Sep 26, 2005
The Bottom Line: Avoid buying any Garmin product. The customer support is slow slow slow.
Review: 3 months to downloaded some of the charts I need, and I had to mail it to Garmin twice to get even that much.
I was told when I bought this unit that I could borrow a mapsource cd and easily download all the local charts. Well, it turns out...

eTrex Legend

Date of Review:  Jan 16, 2002
The Bottom Line: Fantastic handheld GPS. Loaded with features and very easy to use.
Review: The Garmin eTrex legend is everything that they advertised - and more. While it has more built-in features than most people will normally need, it is incredibly easy to learn to use and all the controls are just where you'd want them.

Rugged and Dependable

Date of Review:  Sep 18, 2004
Review: I use the Legend primarily for geocaching but also for the occasional answer to the 'where am I' question that comes up so often on road trips.

The unit is very rugged having survived many falls onto wet, dry, smooth and rocky surfaces...

Kewl! I know exactly where I'm standing at all times!

Date of Review:  Jun 10, 2002
The Bottom Line: Give it a try. Garmin is a leading manufacturer in GPS products, and this gives you a good amount of bang for your buck!
Review: Okay, okay, so knowing exactly where you are can be useful, but you don't need a GPS (most of the time) to get your general location.
