Review: I received the Garmin GPSMAP 76 Versatile navigator for Christmas, what a surprise, since I am technological dummy.

Good receiver but maps and accessories are expensive

Date of Review:  Mar 1, 2005
Review: My first receiver so I can't compare, however, it seems to do everything I could have imagined. The main gripe is that maps are extremely expensive, and there are few 3rd party providers. The map format is CLOSED, so you cannot make your own maps...

Best Multi-Purpose GPS for the Money

Date of Review:  Sep 4, 2003
The Bottom Line: You'll be hard pressed to find another GPS with this combination of features in this small a package at any price and at $305 it's an excellent value.
Review: My search for a GPS device started as a result of my tendency to get lost in the Chesapeake Bay. I needed a GPS device to tell me where I was and which way I needed to go. I preferred to have a device with mapping capabilities, but after looking at...

76S is all you'll need

Date of Review:  Oct 20, 2004
Review: An awesome product with all the features even the advanced user would want. I've been using it while deployed in Iraq and it has done well. I have to say I am a little more rough with the GPS than most users and even managed to break the thing. I...

GPS 76 and 76Map

Date of Review:  Aug 17, 2007
The Bottom Line: Excellent choice as a backup to a larger GPS Chartplotter, or as your primary GPS on a small boat. Accurate. Rugged. Reliable.
Review: I own one of each of these models, the second purchased as an upgrade so I could use the older 76 as a backup. The 76 itself replaced a Garmin 48 (another lovable little unit) on my boat. Both were available on-sale for around $200 at the time of...

An amazing piece of engineering

Date of Review:  Dec 13, 2003
The Bottom Line: An outstanding value for the money, this super-well designed GPS can find your way and help you find fish, but it is also great for collecting electronic mapping data.
Review: Admittedly I love mapping and maps, but the Garmin 76 is probably my all-time favorite electronic device. It is engineered and built extremely well -- very rugged and with an excellent user interface. Although I haven't used Magellens and other...
