Michaels back with Avengence

I finally got a chance to pick up Halloween 5 and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with it.

Plot
Halloween 5 takes place directly at the end of part 4 where the police shoot Michael. Michael fell down a hole and crawled out moments before a stick of dynamite was thrown down there. Michael crawled into the river which took him to an old man’s house. The old man kindly took him in and cured him. It is one year later and Jamie Lloyd(Danielle Harris ) is still in the hospital. On Halloween eve while Danielle is sleeping Michael becomes strong again and is ready to kill and does so by killing the old man. Danielle is going into complete shock through all of this and can sense him coming. Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasense) and Ellie Cornell (Rachel Carruther) watch over Danielle and are upset with the news. It is the next day and Ellie and her friends are going to a Halloween party, Danielle warns her not to go since she fears she will be killed. Michael makes his way into Haddonfield to do some more killings.

Blood, gore, suspense
This film had some blood and gore, it wasn’t very gory but it was still present. I think most of the blood had to be trimmed. This film does have better suspense than the last film. It may not have as much as the first two Halloweens but I feel it had some good suspense.

Acting
Donald Pleasense is still great as the paranoid doctor. He still looks pretty old and walks with a cane but he is very tough. He also delivers some good lines throughout the movie as usual. The one thing that did surprise me about the acting was Danielle Harris who was surprisingly better since the last installment. I actually felt sorry for her and cared for her this time around. The other actors are mainly teens and give a preference you would expect from them.

Thoughts
After loving the first two Halloween movies and watching the mediocre fourth movie, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I think this one really improved a lot where part four failed on. There is better acting this time around and even some of the teenagers portrayed in this film are likable and believable. The suspense is also noticeably bigger in this movie. Sure it doesn’t have as much as the first two it still has a lot. That is a very good thing since the fourth movie hardly had any. One of the things I liked the most was that there was a chance for new possibilities. There is a new character introduced and he is the man in black. Most people don’t like him but I did. He is not shown a lot and doesn’t talk but you can see that he is important. I really loved the ending since it left room for a lot to happen in the next one; sadly the next sequel is not very good at all. The only problem that is noticable is the length. It is not bad that this is a little longer than most other horror flicks but sometimes it did feel a little long. Other than that I must say that this entry of the series is a very good one.

Overall
I really enjoyed this film a lot. There were more new elements involved which were nice to see. The plot was not that strong but comparing it to part four it is much improved. The suspense was nice to see and in my opinion Michaels mask looked much better than the last one. This film had potential and it realized it, I think that’s why this film worked so well. I would recommend any one who likes slasher flicks or the films in the Halloween series, they would probably enjoy it.
