The HP LaserJet 6L printer is an ideal addition for an individuals workstation with a very low paper volume turn out. The printer is very small and can fit on the corner of the desk without consuming desk space, standing at an upright position instead of flat as the HP 5000 printer. Within our organization, this is very important due to the fact that we have very little desktop room in the first place, plus were starting to scan documents at each individual workstation.
At first when I viewed the HP LaserJet 6L printer, I really thought that it was not going to work properly. It looked very similar to the Epson printer which I had delegated to become a paperweight at home so this really gave it a strike before I saw it in action.
However, you cant argue with its accuracy and reliability. We probably have about twelve of these printers scattered at various workstations and have never had to call for service on any of them. Even though they are rather slow in comparison to a larger network printer, its production of 6 pages per minute with total accuracy and clarity (600 x 600 dpi) compensates for this factor. Weve had to educate the users that the 6L will not print 16 pages per minute as the larger network printers do. Other than that, the ladies in our office love the fact that they can have an individual printer to use rather than the network ones.
That factor left aside, you cant argue with success. The HP 6L is very quiet and non-intrusive in operation. Its very versatile even with printing from older software operating systems such as DOS and Windows 3.1 up to the most modern version of Windows. Its very easy to install and runs on lower end machines such as 486s and low Pentiums. Also, even though we use these printers primarily as individual printers on workstations, they can be added to the network by using a HP JetDirect print server.
Because of the fact that there are many computers still in operation at homes and even some businesses which still use the older technology, I find that the HP LaserJet 6L printer is an invaluable piece of hardware to consider for purchase for replacement printers of these operating systems.
Im seriously considering purchasing one of these printers for personal use at my home and because of the good reputation that we have seen with these printers within my workplace, I highly recommend this printer to you.
