Wish it worked better!

I really had high hopes for this humidifier. After returning another brand for not producing any moisture at all, I was encouraged by the claims of "visible mist" on this Holmes package. The fact that it was a cool mist was even better, considering I cannot control the heat in my vintage apartment and my bedroom gets very warm.

This humidifier was almost great, except that I didn't notice a change in humidity!

It provided a thick, continuous cool mist, lasting 12+ hours on one filling and on the highest setting. It was a bit tricky to fill, as the top is not flat, so after having it upside down under the faucet in my tub, I couldn't place it on the floor to screw in the cap. I would have to balance this heavy, filled tank on one edge with one hand and screw in the cap with the other.

This was also the quietest humidifier I have ever seen by far. On the highest setting, it was barely audible. Every once and awhile I could hear it bubble a little as it filled the base but if you were asleep, it certainly would never wake you up.

I also loved the fact that it was filter-free, meaning I didn't have to monitor the filter or purchase new ones.

Unfortunately, after giving this a shot for a few nights and still waking up every morning stuffy with a sore throat, I reluctantly returned it. It seemed like it was working great and certainly provided a ton of mist, but I never noticed a difference in my tiny bedroom.
