Kitchen Aid 4.5 Quart Stand Mixer was a wedding present that I received from my Mother over three years ago. My mother has loved her Kitchen Aid appliances for years and she gave this to me along with
Kitchen Aid Ultra Power 5-Speed Blender and a
Kitchen Aid 9 Cup Classic Food Processor. I was thrilled to have such great quality products in my new kitchen, and my husband was delighted to have a wife that would cook and bake for him!
I love this stand mixer. It gets used constantly. It’s just so simple, and because it sits on my counter, it’s always ready and waiting for me to use it. This model comes in various colors (including dark blue, green, and red), but I own the basic white. It’s true that I love to bake and cook, but I love this mixer because it makes it so easy! I’m not one for breaking a sweat in the kitchen, so I let my
Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer do all the work for me! Now the only thing I am responsible for is reading the recipe right!
I’d say that I use it most for doing simple tasks like whipping cream, making icing, mixing cookies (or any baked goods, really), but it will do other things like knead dough for biscuits, or whip together ingredients for a quiche.

A
Heavy Duty Base / Motor Head with a plate at the bottom to secure the bowl. The motor head has a
speed control lever on the left side, and a
locking lever on the right side. The speeds levels range from OFF, STIR, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. The locking lever keeps the head of the machine down while you are mixing. The beater shaft allows you attach the different beaters to the base. The motor is very quiet, which I really like. The base is smooth and rounded and extremely easy to keep clean. However, this base is very heavy and bulky, and takes up a lot of counter space.
The
Stainless Steel Bowl, which has a capacity of 4.5 quarts. It is very easy to clean and to lock into the base for use. The larger 5 quart bowl has a handle, while this one does not. It is a feature that I wish I had.
A
Flat Beater, which is the beater that I am constantly using. It is the perfect mixing tool. It’s very sturdy, so it will do a good job mixing normal to thicker, heavier mixtures. This attachment is great for cakes, creamed frostings, candies, meat loaf, cookies, etc.
A
Stainless Steel Whisk, which makes whipping cream, egg whites, mashed potatoes, or just about anything a breeze. In fact, egg whites will whip up so quickly, you’ll have to watch it or you’ll accidentally over-whip them.
The
Dough Hook, which, obviously, is used to knead dough. I usually make cinnamon rolls or breads using this attachment. However, this is my least used attachment.
Also included with this purchase, is the
instruction manual/recipe guide. It is very handy and has some pretty good recipes included. It will guide you step-by-step (including pictures) for practically everything you might need to use the machine for.

Ease of Use: Very Good. This machine is very simple to use.
Durability: Excellent. Expect to have this machine for a lifetime. It is heavy duty and very well made. Kitchen Aid is known for this.
Ease of Cleaning: Very Good. The base is cleaned easily because of its smooth lines. The bowl and attachments can go straight into the dishwasher.
