I like tinkering in my newly renovated garage; it’s a comfortable place to hang out with friends that come by to help out with an automobile restoration that I am about 2 months into. During the renovation, we were in the throes of Spring and as the weather turned almost oppressive overnight, I quickly found that a little relief from the weather was in order, so off to a local box store club I went where I found a newly delivered palate of
Lakewood fans; talk about timing. As I pondered the various models I noticed they were flying off the floor so forced to a decision I grabbed the Lakewood HV 18C .
First Impressions
Lakewood fans are built with a flair for functionality that is apparent without even turning it on. Your attention is immediately drawn to the three individual stamped aluminum fins that are center stage on this 18” floor fan. The chrome plated steel guards are attractive and yet functional, easily removed by loosening 6 screws for cleaning.
The stand comes in three parts that are easily assembled and tightened down with twin palm screws. The stand allows 360º rotation, though you likely will only need a fraction of that. A three speed (low, medium, high) rotary switch, nestled inconspicuously in back controls the fan. A nine foot power cord is ample to get the cooling to you.
Cool?
Under Sail the Lakewood HV 18CFloor / Box Fan moves a surprising amount of air for it’s relatively diminutive footprint. Even at low speed you can hear the unforgiving aluminum fins cut through the air. The one thing about fans with plastic fins that make them quieter is they give under pressure where the HV 18C doesn’t give near as much, accounting for the noise. Medium and high settings only exacerbate the noise issue but there is a bearing of fruit here; toupees will sail, skirts will flip up in Monroesque revelry and you will squint like an Formula One driver without a facemask, but guess what, the HV 18C. will cool your space almost immediately! The Lakewood HV 18C is an effective fan that cooled my 1200 sq foot garage quickly, much to my surprise. Noise,who cares? I would replace the Lakewood HV 18C in a heartbeat.
Up until a couple of weeks ago I had never heard of Lakewood , now they are a product on my permanent shortlist.
