Great DVD player. Craigmoose paid $10 too much however...
Still, it's a nice player at anything under $30.
I also bought this at Sears in January.
It was on sale for $34.95, but they had a customer return
in a glass case for $27.00. The salesperson told me that the customer had probably gotten two for Christmas.
I ran a few other errands, priced a couple of others,
and decided to go back and pick up the customer returned one.
I told them I wanted the one out of the case.
No one had the key to the case. I stood around and waited
while the paged everyone in the store.
Apparently, the only one who had a key had gone on a late (3:00pm) lunch.
I moaned and complained. Told them I lived 40 miles away (true).
They said they could ship it at no cost to my nearest Sears store. I said "You ARE my nearest Sears store!" (also true).
I told them I'd been shopping for one all day (well, I had a couple of other things to pick up), and had told my kids I was bringing it home (well, I don't _exactly_ have any kids), but I wanted to bring it home.
I finally told them I'd take the display model and remote for the same price. It didn't come with cables, but I had plenty of 3-wire RCA video cables, and I ended up moving the DirecTV over to a RCA input and I'm running the DVD player on the S-VIDEO input on my 1988 Mitsubishi 27" TV.
For some reason, they rang it up for $17.99. I guess they figured I couldn't get the $10 rebate w/o the UPC (true).
Next day, I had to go back to town for something, so I went into Sears.
This time the guy I talked to day before (with the key to the case) was there. I showed him the receipt for the floor model I'd purchased yesterday (since no one had the key), and asked for the box for the manual and the UPC. He even reprinted a rebate form for me.
It was $19 something with tax and $9 something after I got the rebate back in 3 weeks.
Since then, it's played 50 or so Netflix, Blockbuster, and Walmart.com rental DVD's with no problems.
I guess I like DVD's now. I figured it was probably a fad, but when the price came down to less than $30 and my VCR had died, I figured I'd try one. They're OK. Still wouldn't pay more than $10 for one though...
