Has Anyone Heard Of This?

I don't know what movie everyone else saw, but I thought that
"Mad City" was one of the best movies I've ever seen. What
actually attracted me to this movie was the cast, an amazing
group. There's the amazing Dustin Hoffman, whom I think is great
in anything. I mean you could give the man Barney and he could
make it Shakespeare. Then you've got John Travolta, one of
those geniuses of his time. Personally, my two favorite actors, in
one movie, and I wasn't disappointed.

"Mad City" is a movie about a man who just loses it, and starts
holding a museum full of children hostage. He explains that he
just wants his job back. But, a reporter tries to milk out the story
so he make it big in the news again, but ends up befriending the
man.

What I loved most about this movie was that it wasn't corny or
overdramatized. When Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta talk,
they talk like a normal reporter with a big ego and a scared, but
armed man. Of course they could have just gone right about and
made Hoffman do some big speech about morals or showbiz or
have Travolta shoot up the place, but they didn't, and that's
what makes it for me.

But, I read others reviews, and I paid special attention to the one
written by Ebert. Most of the time I agree with this man, but this
time, I really don't. Ebert says that "Mad City" has Travolta
playing the same character that he played in Pulp Fiction. Sure,
there's some similarities, but it's not like that's all the man has
done. Travolta, I think does a spectacular job as a scared
gunman, and I only hope he gets more parts along these lines.

Besides the acting, there's the location where the movie is set.
Most of it takes place in front of a spectacular museum with
beautiful trees and the inside is almost as great. With dinosaurs
and Indians, it makes the movie even more enjoyable.

I think that if you like the actors, or like action/drama movies
then go see this. I'm one of those rare girls who hate doppy
romanic comedies...I like it when, as most guys artfully put it,
"stuff blows up." Go see it!
