Product Review

great GPS, awful customer service

by   beauxp ,   Aug 10, 2006

Pros:  Great package for the price ($170 at basicjunk.com)

Cons:  Support is the worst I have ever seen

The Bottom Line:  GPS unit is solid. Easy to use (read the manual) Does the job for less $$. Support is just about the worse that I have seen.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

First unit I bought was bad. Had to send it back. I talked to support, did not have to hold long, but they seem rather inept. I got the feeling that they were just reading a manual. The unit would not power up all they way. I called support and they told me I could either mail it in to them and they would fix that one and get it back to me in about 60 to 90 days or I could get with the company I bought it from.

I have called on some problems with software and have had problems as well. Kind of wishing I would have went with a Garmin right now.

The display is very bright. The only time I have used the backlight is inside my home. The battery has lasted me up to 15 hours without running it dead. On one tract the batter went from full to about ½ in about 5 hours, but I was using it almost constantly. Going from screen to screen every 10 minutes or so.

I bought my unit from basicjunk.com for only $170, that includs shipping. I could not get a Garmin with the same features for the same price, or even close to it. I really did not care about the color screen, barometer, or altimeter. I wanted a good GPS that would connect to a computer and I could save maps on, thus for the money this was the best option for me.

If support was better I would give this product 4 starts.
