What a suspense

Like all Alfred Hitchcock movies, this one is best viewed more than once. Some of the subtle give-aways in the beginning of the movie are better appreciated when you see it again. This is another movie that I noticed the hands were shown. When James Stewart is standing in the police station and the gentleman with him is calling the hotel. Seeing him wringing his hands enhances the fear and tension.

The scene in the theater when Doris Day is standing there, watching, as she knows an assassination is about to happen is very suspenseful and reaches the heart. You sit there, realizing that would be one of the most difficult things to go through. And you think "What would I do?" To have to choose between the life of your son or the life of another person is dramatic. This is truly one of her best scenes. Most movies I have seen her in were comedies, and this was so serious. (I like her in every movie I have seen her play.)

And as usual there is the humor in the fact that some friends are left at the hotel in London as James Stewart and Doris Day run all over the place looking for their son. The ending is so hilarious to me, they walk in as if they had just been out a few minutes to pick him up. As if, their day had been routine.

This is a classic and I would recommend it for everyone.
