Author's Review
As a companion to A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet, L'Engle returns us to the unique and never boring Murray family. This time, however, she chooses two of the formerly minor characters to write her story about.
Sandy and Dennys Murray, the ones in the first book described as the average, normal ones in the family are whisked away on a trip through time and space that takes them to a place beyond their wildest imagination.
L'Engle uses this journey to introduce us to these complex characters and shows us that although they are identical twins, not everything they think and do is identical. Their individual personalities show as time passes by on their adventure. They learn more about themselves, each other, friendship and love. And they are forced to face the ultimate test of love -- letting go.
L'Engle's beautifully written adventure/fantasy/romance story brings tears to my eyes every time I read it or hear the verse where the title was taken from. "Many waters cannot quench love neither can the floods drown it."
If you're a L'Engle fan or a fan of the Murray family, this is a must read. If you've never read L'Engle before, this is a good place to start because although it hints at things that have happened in the other books, there's no details that would spoil the others in the series.
