Author's Review
The Moby wrap is an excellent baby carrier for a newborn. It is basically a long piece of fabric which is stretchy and is used by wrapping it around yourself to create a holder for a baby.
I had my son in this carrier from the time he was a few days old. The Moby wrap website is very helpful for learning how to wrap correctly. This is a stretchy wrap, which has some give to it, so you do not have to worry about making sure the tails are completely straight and flat, but you do want to be comfortable, so the more you practice the better you will become. There are many ways to use this carrier, all based off of one wrap style. I used this carrier in the "infant hug hold" position. The site demonstrates other holds such as cradle, forward facing with legs in, forward facing with legs out, and back carrying.
This wrap is amazing for getting things done while still holding your infant, as your hands remain free. I was able to take care of my toddler without dragging a heavy car seat along with me. The Moby is better than a Baby Bjorn, for which the baby must be bigger and which is much more of a strain on your back. The Moby distributes your baby's weight much more evenly. I switched to using a ring sling as my baby grew a bit heavier. Wrapping takes a bit more time than a ring sling as well. I highly recommend the website thebabywearer.com for information on all types of baby carriers, including the Moby wrap.
