Author's Review
This was the first game I purchased along with my Dreamcast, and it is the best football game I have ever played. Everything is so realistic, its almost scary. I chose this game because I am a die-hard football fan, and this game has almost everything I could ask for in a game.
Graphics:
This is definitely the best looking football game out there on ANY system. Before I bought this game I was playing Madden 2000 for the PlayStation. I brought this home, played it for half an hour, and have never touched Madden since. All the players look exactly like they do in real life. If your favorite player wears one wristband in real life, he wears one wristband in the game. If you put it on coach mode its hard to tell if you are playing a video game or actually watching a real NFL game. That's how good the graphics are.
Gameplay:
If you have ever played a football game on the PlayStation, this is really no different. There is the Season mode and a Fantasy Draft. A Playoff mode and Exhibition. You can also Create a Player or Team. The only real problem with this game is the running game, or lack of one. I have yet to see a run play get more than 15+ yards. The passing is perfect, especially if you hike the difficulty up. It's a little too easy to make bomb passes for 40+ yards on the Rookie setting. I would have loved to have seen a Franchise mode like in Madden 2000, and I hear they are including that, along with online play, in next years version.
Sound:
This isn't exactly my favorite part of playing a game, and I usually play games with my CD player on anyway, but the sound in this game is as good as in any other football game. The commentary is outstanding. It's not very often you hear them repeating anything. The music during the menu's gets annoying after a while.
Overall:
Even with the "more realistic" running game, this is still by far the best football game ever made. You will spend hours creating players and teams and playing through seasons. I recommend this game to anyone with a Dreamcast, and even if you don't, its a great reason to buy the system.
