Setup was easy since I have past Netgear router experience.

A neighbor of mine needed help configuring his wireless network so he called me to ask if I could walk him through the install on the phone. I am in the IT field and he's WAY not! :)

My first question was the router model number so I could look up the manual. I downloaded the reference manual from netgear's website, but since I have a netgear router myself, instead of referring to the manual, my first step was to log into my router and use it for reference. Even though my router (an mr814) is about 5 years old, the menu for the two routers is quite similar.

In about 15 minutes we had the router configured for use - cables plugged in, wireless up and running (unsecured), setup an Access Control List for the computers in his house that would connect to the router, etc. Another 15 minutes to get the WEP part configured for security (the bulk of the time trying to get the Window's machines configured with WEP - have to carefully enter the encryption keys and avoid "fat fingering" something).

Anyway, the bottom line here is that I never laid a finger on the router (or saw it) but it's quite similar to the older model netgear I do have. That means to me that it's a relatively easy install if familiar with past models. That's good in my book because my current router has been great (no issues) and if it has only been improved by making it faster or have enhanced security, then Netgear's doing something right...
