Fun yet repetitive.

Date of Review: Sep 29, 2006

The Bottom Line:  A very fun game, has some new features, great choice for a Pokemon fan. But it can be very repetitive.
The game is somewhat repetitive, mostly because you get a mission from the post office, you accept the mission, you select it on your job list, and you leave the area to go to a dungeon to get to that mission and hopefully complete it.

When you are in the dungeon, you just fight off all of the other wild pokemon that will approach you, and try to fight you way to the destinatation floor. Once you get there, you just talk to the Pokemon that you are doing the mission for and it gives you a reward and the mission is complete.

You do that a million times, earning points and money for your rescue team. There are some interactive features of the game though, you can store your money in the bank so you won't lose it, you can "link" moves so that when you do a move your Pokemon does two of the moves at once making it a stronger attack and you can buy items like apples and berries to heal you and things like that.

A new feature that wasn't found in the older Pokemon series games, altough somewhat annoying, is pretty unique. Your Pokemon now has a 'belly', which is totally seperate from HP (HP is how many hit points you have left) and your 'belly' eventually gets lower and lower unless you eat up something, sometimes you can find apples in the dungeons and pick them up and eat them but it is a good idea to stock up in the store before you enter the mission.

Your starter Pokemon in this game is determined by a test that you must take, it asks you questions about yourself and matches a Pokemon that is 'best for you'. You take that Pokemon, and pick a partner pokemon of your choice and you are on your way.

Overall, it is an interesting game with a new concept, but it does get very repetitive. Just think about the rescue team points that you earn, and that should keep you going.
