Original idea....
Date of Review: Jul 7, 2000
The objective of this game is to follow the story of all the people you talk to. Plus, the sneak, a computer terminal attached to Kayl's arm, can call the sliders (transporters) and it is also the menu screen, sort of like an RPG.
GRAPHICS: The graphics in this game are horribly reminiscent of Tomb Raider and Duke Nukem (for Playstation). At first the graphics seem pretty cool because all you see is your character and the alley. Then, when you walk around the corner you get a glimpse of that patented Tomb Raider style environment. Sure Kayl look pretty good, but the rest of the people in this game look like Eidos made them, oh wait they did. The next thing I found a bit precarious was that there were so many half naked women walking around, I felt as if I was playing Duke Nukem. Plus, if you have ever played Duke Nukem you will notice that this game has the same type of feel to it, with less killing, and more strip clubs. The worst part about the graphics in this game are the glitches, which you will find every where. 5/10
SOUND: If you like David Bowie, you will like the beginning of the game because he sings that song. The question you may ask yourself is, where did the music go? I don't know either? Anyway, the background music does get a little repetitive, but it's hard to notice. The beginning song is all right, and the background music is mediocre, but the sound effects are probably the best part of the sound. The good thing is that sometimes the characters talk, and when your in stores you get neat little comments, they are usually a little obscene, but funny nonetheless. The fighting sound effects are just like every other mediocre fight game, so don't expect to be impressed. 5/10
CONTROLS: The control has to be the easy thing about this game. I found that the default setup was good enough for me, but if you don't like it there are plenty of other combinations that you can use, all you have to do is use the sneak and change the settings. The only few problems I had with the controls was one; you can't just flip around, you have to actually turn all the way around, and two you can't use the little joystick on the regular controls. The best thing about the controls is that you can actually use the arcade joystick, which is a little more comfortable on your hands. 9/10
FUN FACTOR: The best part about this game is that it's an original story and idea. The bad part (parts) about this game is that there is way to much loading; every door you walk through it stops to load the game, and since you have to walk through a lot of doors, it gets quite stupid. I felt as if every time the game was loading the disc was skipping. The other bad part about this game is that the writing is so small and blurry that it's hard to see. I will give you an example, it is about this letter size or one bigger, in a cursive like writing, and as I said it's really blurry. The writing was so hard for me to read that I had to sit right in front of the TV, and I have great eyes. 3/10
Overall I would have to say that this game, sadly, only deserves a rent. The story may be original, but sometimes you need more than just an original idea to make a game good, although it does help. The fact is that Dreamcast is expected to have a certain look and sound to it, and this game clearly doesn't. Some people may disagree with my opinion on this game, but the fact is that this game does not have much more than what the Playstation could have done. If it's an original idea your looking for this game may interest you, but even so rent it first.
