Pompeii to Dark Side of the Moon

The Director's Cut version of the Floyd's Live at Pompeii starts with a heartbeat reminiscent of Dark Side's start and then takes you on a stunning ride through some of their best music. Apollo lift-offs, ethereal music and in-depth interviews with the band mark this great dvd.

Starting with Echoes (Part I) and progressing through to Echoes (Part II) the music's the thing. Studio-to-live fades, excellent sound quality, and the evident closeness of the band are my highlights of the film. This was a long-awaited release and well worth the wait. Produced in 1972 the film thankfully captures the transition stage in the band's career from super-psychedelic to rockers psychedelic.

Hey - who would have thunk to perform solo in a 2000 year old amphitheater? The taste of the coming Dark Side album perfectly fits and it is hard to imagine a world without Dark Side's foresight and cutting edge production (for the time - 1973).
