Never thought I'd like a Pokemon game!
Date of Review: Mar 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: If you have'nt tried this game yet, you should, even if you're an adult. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
I know that I in May last year told you how horrible I thought Pokemon were. I told you how I hated them, and how I thought the parents should forbid their kids from owning Pokemon stuff. Well, I sort of still stick to what I said, but I have to admit, that I find playing Pokemon games a little bit amusing. And when I was in the US for christmas, I bought Pokemon Gold for my little brother. (See, I knew that he was going to be thrilled to get the game over 6 months before it was released in Norway. Here it isn't released until April 6th.)
So, what is this game all about?
Unlike the previous Pokemon games, this game is not about Ash. This game takes place three years after Ash has beaten the evil Team Rocket, and the world is once again a peaceful place. But, obviously people in Johto are still obsessed with Pokemon, and youngsters still want to become the very best. This time you are a little boy called "Gold" (Though you can call him anything you'd like) And as in the previous games you can choose between three Pokemon, but this time, three Pokemon you've never seen before! And so the game begins...
Is there any improvements from the last games?
Oh yes, there are plenty. The graphics are a whole lot better, the colors are more realistic, and the Pokemon are more detailed. They haven't done anything to the sound, it still is that annoying music that we all love to hate. The new world is something you will be really fascinated over, it is so much bigger than the one in the last games, and you can still battle all the trainers that were in the previous games. It is great! And, it almost can't get better with 100 brand new Pokemon.
Is there something missing in this game?
I think it is sad that the Pokemon games still don't have a decent storyline. Because it is the same as the previous games, and there are some really stupid storylines in the game. Ex: In one town, people are sad because there are no Slowpokes in town. Theme Rocket has kidnapped them. In order to fight the gym leader, you have to save the Slowpokes. Why? Slowpokes are annoying... Well, moving on... I think that they could have made some improvements on the battle scenes. There are very few changes there! But, there really isn't anything else I miss in this game.
All in all
All in all this is a really good game, for children and teens. It is filled with action, and you will have a great time playing it for at least 10 hours. If you have children, you should buy this game for them, and if you don't, then why not buy it for yourself? I don't think you'll be disappointed.
