Product Review

Reader's Digest- Definitely Not Boring

by   Ready2bmom ,   Mar 24, 2000

Pros:  It has something for everything

Cons:  Is there such a thing as too much in one book?

The Bottom Line:  This is a great book that has a little something for everyone.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I’ve been reading this magazine since I was young. I’m now 27 and I still love just as much.

I love the fact that it comes out every month. Sometimes, it takes me a month to read the whole thing. So by the time I’ve finished, I’m ready for the next one to come.

They have something for everyone in each issue. They have 12 different departments that they have in each issue that comes out.

They have Heroes for Today, which highlights about 3 or 4 people who were noteworthy of heroism. These are personal stories and they are very poignant. Then, there is That’s Outrageous! which tells a few separate stories about something outrageous that has happened in a person’s life like how they got away with murder or how they have been cheating the government out of millions of dollars, etc. Next, one of my favorites, News of Medicine. This outlines about 3 or 4 updates on what has been just recently discovered in the world of medicine, how technology has advanced in that department, a cure has been found for a disease, or a new pill has worked. Word Power is another one of my favorites. This is a vocabulary test, like in school. Remember those? Except these words are even harder, well, most of them are! Then there is Personal Glimpses. This is basically some good advice from some noteworthy people. All in a Day’s Work is just a bunch of funny anecdotes that can occur in day to day life. Quotable quotes is just that. Then there are several which contain funny anecdotes having to do with school, daily life, etc.

Next, are the articles. The first section is Special Report. This is usually about a topic like gun control for example that has been talked about in recent news. Then there is the People section. This has stories about life and love. Drama and Adventure has two parts. The first part is a story taken from a book. The second part is someone’s personal story about an experience they had that sometimes test courage, strength, luck, and spirit. There is a Health Guide. This has a few short articles about healthy topics, like diets, and stress and how to deal with them. There is Currents, like what is going on in the race for president, or what new issues there are about the internet. Then, there are more articles on money issues, non-fiction stories, and attitudes.

So, if you don’t to just read a boring book, go out and get a Reader’s Digest. Open your mind and try this out. I guarantee you won’t be bored!
