Author's Review

I bought this TV because to fill a void, a void in my new entertainment center. I wanted the largest screen that would fill the space and I was frustrated that the bezels on the LCD and Plasma TVs were so wide. The DLP sets, being projection TVs, the area behind the screen area is mainly air, and no bezel is needed to cover the electronics. I would have been restricted to a 52 inch screen using other technologies.

I had an earlier 780p Mitzu DLP TV that used the older lamp technology, ran hot, had noisy fans, and took a long time to warm up. This device is much better, it turns on in 5 seconds, has no fan noise, probably because of LED illumination that produces less waste heat. In addition the extra 1080p resolution is nice when looking at a BlueRay disk (I use a PS3 as a player), and for upsampled DVDs.

The 3 HDMI inputs gives one for the PS3, one for the computer (using a DVI-HDML cable), and one for the Tivo, so I'm loaded.

I have two annoyances: The TV goes snap and crackle as it heats up (note the lack of "pop"). From the sound I'm guessing this is caused by the plastic in the case expanding and contracting. It continues to crackle for some time after the TV is turned off.

The other minor problem is endemic to projection TVs: It has limited viewing angle. If you are off center or lying on the floor, the screen is noticably less bright.

It comes with a nice remote, but I don't use it much, opting for the Tivo remote most of the time.

Note that the TV while a narrow 19 inches, needs some air around it for cooling, so don't place it in a cubby that is too tight.
