Author's Review
Before I purchased and MP3 player, I read quite a few reviews. To be truthful, I don't understand the hubbub. I got the Sansa 4MB model because it was 4MB and a good price for that. I didn't care about video's or pictures or album art etc. I wanted digital music! I got my unit and hooked it to my computer so I could delete the preloaded songs, videos and pictures. I opened my Windows Media Player V10 and ripped CD after CD and then hooked up my Sansa unit and they synched right up. The unit lists Artists, Albums, Songs, Genre, etc. but no album art. Guess what? I DON'T CARE! I rarely stare at my CD covers, or my vinyl LP covers, so why should I stare at my MP3 player? Controls are easy - even with the after-market travel case I put it in. Once again - how many times do you adjust the stereo sound, or search repeatedly for songs, or raise / lower the volume? Additionally - the SANSA DOES have the ability to alter the equalizer. Look closely at the menu and you will see where you can adjust the equalizer for YOUR settings. The presets are there but I did ONE custom setting and have left it there ever since. I turn it on, find the album I want and listen to music - pretty simple and it works like a charm. Memory is NOT a full user accessible 4GB, it's more like 3.85 after you get rid of the extraneous stuff. I have over 900 hundred songs on mine and have 680MB left. Once again - WHO LISTENS TO OVER 900 SONGS? - If this is your ONLY music device and you have a bunch of CD's - get the 8MB SANSA. If you are simply looking for an MP3 player that is easy to use, has easy to use controls, has voice / FM radio recording abilities PLUS some video / photo storage space AND you can add up to 2GB of additional memory to it - ALL for less than $150 -- go for this one. I can't speak about the earphones too much - they were 'okay' but I wanted isolation phones so I got a set from Shure the same time I ordered the SANSA. 20 hours on playback is great - about a 90 minute recharge on my laptop PC via the USB port. When I am traveling - I have the laptop with me more than a nearby power outlet - I like being able to recharge via the laptop.
