Author's Review
The first thing you must realize is that the audience of this book is not intended to be any joe or jane off the street who is thinking of maybe doing a little weightlifting. I think people become frustrated if they are new to weightlifting and they expect to look like arnold after hitting the gym for about a month (And quit training entirely). Then they blame the routines arnold gives in his book.
If you are someone who has some background in bodybuilding or weight training you will really appreciate this book. I have been an avid weightlifter for the last 10 years, and so I understand the concepts and training principles which were spelled out in this book. This book is big, nearly 800 big pages, and has much information. I realized that if I am going to spend $700/year and 8 to 10 hours a week in the gym, a $25 investment in a book is definately worth it.
I really enjoyed Arnold's style of writing, he understands that this book need not be boring, so he always interjects stories and photos of him training for the Olympia along with the information which really makes the book readable.
Another thing which is great about this book is Arnold not only explains the physical aspect of training but also the mental aspects. This helps you stay focused and set and meet you training goals.
If you are a "Pumping Iron" the movie fan, you absolutely must buy this book...
SUMMARY:
There is so much information in this book I could hardly review it all, but if you are already a person familar with the gym, and fairly serious about bodybuilding. (and you want to optimize your physique, trim down, get more cut, build more bulk, spot train, go on a diet, etc.) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. This book has personally helped me start evening out my physique, focus on weak points, and get me motivated.
If you are a beginner, I do not recommend this book because the routines are probably too aggressive for you, and you will probably risk overtraining.
