Product Review

Great play back! Slow boot!

by   bongnpinoy ,   Oct 30, 2007

Pros:  Great Value and comes with seven HD DVDs

Cons:  Slow boot time

The Bottom Line:  If you don't want to pay four to five hundred dollars, go with with HD DVD players which cost less than two hundred dollars for Toshiba's HD-A2 model

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I've taking a side and I've picked HD-DVD. Don't know anything about the different technicalities between Blu-Ray and HD DVD, but frankly from what I've seen in electronic stores both looks the same - stunning sharpness, clarity and brightness. HD DVD is the cheaper format from the two (less than two hundred at Amazon for the HD-A2 model). Since these two formats are still battling it out and have a possibility of going obsolete… when I had to decide to purchase Hi Def player for my 50 inch LCD I had to put my money on the least expensive of the two formats.

And I’m glad to say I’m not disappointed with my decision. Though I’d like to view movies that are exclusively Blu Ray, HD DVD is by no means limited in the selection of films. Fortunately two of the three of my favorite shows are exclusively HD DVD (Smallville and Heroes). The third being Lost will be exclusively Blu Ray. Nevertheless regular DVDs looks great on the on this HD DVD player, I played season one of Lost and was still quite impressed by the picture quality. This player is a 1080P player using HDMI, frankly I could not tell any improvements, in terms of picture quality, between 1080i connected with component cable. There was however a slight improvement in sound quality. I noticed a slight buzz when connected with component cable, but when connected with HDMI, the sound was flawless.

My only gripe about the player is that it takes awhile for the player to turn on. It takes about 15 to 20 seconds for the player to boot. Loading of DVD and HD-DVD, however, is quite fast.

Players comes with 300 and The Bourne Identity in the box and five additional HD DVDs through mail for a limited time.

And lastly this is not a HD DVD recorder... this is a mistake in the part of Epinion.
