I now own the betamax of DVD players.

I have wanted an HDDVD player for a while, but have been waiting for the price to drop, and for the Blu-Ray vs. HDDVD war to be over.

I decided not to wait any longer. I was going to have both, as both seemed here to stay. I got a Sony PlayStation 3 to play Blu-Ray movies, and I went out and got this Toshiba HD DVD player for HD DVDs.

Both formats look awesome on my television, even if it only plays at 1080i. The only negative with this player is that it takes a while to ‘boot up’ and be ready to play a movie. It’s still under a minute, but not instantaneous.

I was ecstatic the price had dropped 50% right before my purchase. And I was getting 7 HDDVDs with it. I paid $149 bucks. I still have not received the 5 HDDVDs you have to mail in to get.

Seven days later I learned the reason for the huge price drop. Toshiba announced that it was dropping HDDVD players from its line and the format altogether.

Still, I am not sorry. My entire DVD collection looks better. And I am hoping to build a big collection of HD DVDs before they are gone.
