Not a Ta-Coma!
Pros:
roomy interior, storage, gas mileage
Cons:
pricey, other than that nothing
The Bottom Line:
I would say that if you're looking for a truck that you're going to want to keep forever then the 2006 Tacoma is it.

My husband and I purchased a brand-spanking new black 2006 Toyota Tacoma nearly three weeks ago now. We spent most of the day deciding what features we wanted and didn't want.
Since my husband was the going to be the primary driver, he got to pick out all the goodies he wanted. He decided on the 4-cylinder extended cab. He didn't really want the keyless entry, power windows, or doors. So he got a toned down version.
The little 4-cylinder doesn't act like a 4. It really does have power. The shifting is smooth and quiet. We wanted the 4 cylinder because of gas mileage and have been very pleased. It's getting very close to the EPA rating of 21 mpg. For a truck, I think that's great. And for those of you wondering, that's with the tail gate up.
The brakes are good. I've not had to drive it in rain yet, but so far on dry surfaces it's almost break neck.
I must say I love the roominess of the cab. I really enjoyed the fact that I can lay down the passenger seat and talk to my daughter sitting in the back.
I will say that the interior for a near base model doesn't feel base. It has a very good feel to it. I like the toughness of the cloth. With a two year old crawling all of the place you need a tough interior. The center console is awesome. It has a little net for keeping cd's out of the way. Plus it's pretty deep. I love the cup holders. It has three. Two are adjustable, and the third is great for bottles or my daughter's drinks. There's even a non-slip surface for cell phones.
The cd player is great. The sound is amazing. I love the storage under the jump seats. And I've sat in the back, it really isn't all that bad. If you were over about 5'10" though, you'd be hurting. A short trip is about all you could stand.
There's also the cool tie down runners built into the bed liner (which is standard). It makes keeping items in the bed of the truck much easier.
Overall, I'd give this truck an A. I will say that it wasn't cheap. At almost 21,000, it's an expensive truck, but it has the durability and long lasting name of Toyota.
Oh, and the dog loves the sliding window!
