Angelcare Monitor - would not sleep without it

I have an Angelcare monitor for my baby. We actually received it as a gift from my parents when my now four year old daughter was a newborn. I think the item was a brand new invention when she was born. Our very good friend lost their son from SIDS a year before our daughter was born. I was so paranoid about SIDS that I was afraid I simply would not be able to sleep until she turned 1 year old. That was the age I had always heard SIDS was no longer a threat. Having the Angelcare monitor gave me a piece of mind. We used it from the day we brought her home from the hospital until she graduated out the of crib into her big girl bed at age 2. Now we use the very same monitor for my newborn son. I have read some things people have said about using this monitor and really thinking it works as it advertises. I know that it is not a medical device and there is a possibly that the buzzer might not go off if god forbid happened. But since we do not have a history of SIDS in my family a doctor is certainly not going to issue a prescription for a sleep apnea monitor. so I figure this is the best I can do. I will say that with my daughter the buzzer did go off a few times when she was still sleeping in the bed side sleeper. As soon as the sound started I jolted right up. Each time she was fine but who knows? Maybe before the buzz went off she had stopped breathing and the sound starteled her too and caused her to breathe again? I also can say that when it is on and I pick the baby up the pad no longer detects any movement and the sounds alarms. So I know it is working. I highly recommend this monitor even if it is only to help mom and dad sleep better.
