Some hearts just win American Idol
Pros:
Awesome powerful vocals, original songs, memorable lyrics, and a good overall album.
Cons:
I'm not sure if the best song will be able to be hit songs.
The Bottom Line:
Are you tired of American Idol and it's pop stars? Then buy this album! Carrie is very talented and I think has a very bright future for someone so young.

Author's Review
I got this album a while back after falling in love with Carrie Underwood from American Idol. I was happy when the show was down to who I feel were the best 2 on there. It didn't matter who won, in fact I knew either one would make it with or without the record contract, and I have Bob Bice's album as well.
Anyway, I remember Simon telling Carrie that she would not only win, but also sell more albums than all the winners had up to this point. I don't know about the record sales, but I do find myself agreeing with simon much of the time even though I wouldn't quite be so mean, but enough about that, this is not an "ode to simon", so back to the album.
I prefer to go song by song when it comes to my reviews, so please bear with me.
"Wasted" This is personally my favorite on the album. I feel this song could be one of her biggest hits, even more than anything so far, even though the radio would probably edit out about 15 seconds of the intro. This song is powerful, and it reminds me of a "where would you be" by Martina McBride but Carrie's version of that type of song. It's a great song, but I feel it's too early in the CD for it, I would prefer a song like "some hearts" (even if the title track was the first song like the cliche is sometime) because it would fit better, but I still like it the way it is.
"Don't forget to remember me" This is a good song as well, another single of Carrie's. It reminds me of maybe a Trisha Yearwood song, and it is a little slower, it's a good driving song because of what it is about and the music.
"Some hearts" This song starts out a little slow but gets faster, and it is one of the most unique song on this album. I love the way she sings it, it's almost pop-ish and not country with the vocals, and I enjoy the variety the song adds to the album.
"Jesus, take the wheel" I totally was speechless and amazed when I first heard this song, I was powerfully moved by it. But now, months later, I am on the virge of hating it when they play it on the radio because every station plays it. But besides the overplayed aspect, this song is very good and I know it has touched many people, so I do like it a lot.
"The night before" (life goes on) This reminds of a LeAnn Rimes song, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is definitely not a cheap rip off. This song fits well in the album, and is more of an average song, good but nothing special in my opinion.
"Lessons learned" I love the soft way this song starts with the piano, and then it gets into it. This song reminds me of a Jessica Andrews song, which of course is an other young country artist, but it is original, and I think it is a unique song, it is well placed in the album.
"Before he cheats" This is definitely a funny song, I don't see why it can't be a hit as well. I love listening to this one, and I'm so glad it is included in this album because it is really fun.
"Starts with goodbye" This is another song that with a lot of dynamics when it goes from soft to harder and it is well placed as well. It is not funny like the last song, but it shows how well rounded this album is. This is a powerful song as well.
"I just can't live a lie" This is one of the songs I would almost call "filler material" but with Carrie, it's hard to do that, because she saves the songs. We all have to face the fact that most artists are not able to make every song an amazing hit on their album, this one is good, but not all that memorable to me.
"We're young and beautiful" This is a fun, fast paced, upbeat song, and it celebrates life and youth. This is one of my favorites on this album, and I love how the chorus is even more fun than the regular verses of the song. This has a lot of feeling to it, and it makes this album very diverse and yet it runs together, I know you will love this song.
"That's where it is" This is not necessarily one of my favorites, but to leave it it would be a crime to this review. It is a well written song that has it's place in this album and without it, the album wouldn't be the same, but it does get repetitous at times.
"Whenever you remember" This is a softer song and it has some of the most original music and chord changes with vocals to match. For a song that isn't a hit, it sure is a beautiful song, and Carrie makes it her own as she sings and the listener enjoys it.
"I ain't in Checotah anymore" I always love songs like this, when the beginning of it gets the listener used to one thing, and then the chorus comes and gets you by surprise. I have a friend from Oklahoma who enjoys this song and I have quoted lyrics from this song to her and she agrees with it totally! This reminds me of "get you back" by Rachael Proctor because it starts out soft and surprises me too, but the subject matter is in another ballpark. I love this one, I know you will too, good comparison from the city to the country.
"Inside your heaven" How well would you be able to sing a song you have practiced a lot when you find out you just won a big contest and a record contract and all your dreams have come true? Well I think she pulls it off quite well, even though Bo Bice had just sung it earlier because obviously it was going to be a hit for either of them no matter who won. This one was recorded live obviously, and it helps the listener remember where Carrie first appeared to America and hopefully stole your heart as well.
Overall, this album is very good, no it's not my favorite, but I think Carrie has awesome potential to make it long after anyone remembers where she came from.
