I wouldn't exactly call this a "ROYAL" Rumble............
Date of Review: Dec 24, 2000
The Bottom Line: Since Attitude was the only WWF game for Dreamcast, something different had to come out. Rumble is not a sereis WWF game, but a fun arcade one.
THQ could have done a lot better with this one. For multiplayer the game isn't to bad. The Royal Rumble mode with a max of nine superstars on the screen is fun, but it can get confusing. Theirs not to many features in this game, like no create a character mode, and only a few types of matches.
Exhibition:
Well normally there would be lots of matches in the exhibition mode but not for WWF Royal Rumble. Only 3 types of matches exist, 1 on 1, Triple Threat, and Fatal Four Way. However randomly during any exhibition match you can get teleported to a backstage arena, or a steel cage will drop down onto the ring. In a way that is cool but it get in the way. So with those 5 plus the Royal Rumble of course, there remains only 6 different types of matches.
Royal Rumble:
This is the main mode in the game. Royal Rumbles are fun, but like I said before........they can get confusing with 9 characters on the screen. One thing that is cool is more then one of the same superstars can be in the ring at once! To tell them apart each superstar has more then one outfit. Also when you get thrown out of the ring, you can select the character you want to come back in as! Its even possible to come back as the same superstar you were thrown out as!
Superstars:
There is only about 20 superstars in total. Royal Rumble includes some top superstars such as; The Hardy Boyz, The Rock, Stone Cold, Kane and The Undertaker! Also Vince & Shane Mcmahon are hidden characters that can be gotten by doing things like beating the Royal Rumble.
GamePlay:
Royal Rumble has the same wrestling engine as the Smackdown's for playstation. There's no lock ups and it's who ever does the motions for the attack or grapple first, gets it on. It's also a fast paced game.
Graphics:
Also like in SmackDown 2 this game has good graphics. The characters look alot sharper and cleaner then those Smackdown. Character models however seem to have only a slightly higher polygon count then Smackdown making them look slightly blocky at times. However this can be excused due to the fact that there is up to 9 superstars in the ring at a time.
Sounds & Music:
Like every other THQ wrestling game, the sounds and music are boring. There are no entrances for the superstars so that makes no good music in the whole game. As for sounds well, its just your basic sounds when the superstars hit each other. Nothing good for sounds or music.
Fun factor & Replay value: Playing the game is alot of fun, but as I said before, it gets confusing with 9 characters on the screen at once. This game will keep most people busy for only around a few days. So theres not much replay value.
Final Comments: Well overall this is a fun game, not much to do though. I would only recommend it to people who only have a Dreamcast.
