Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx Handheld GPS Receiver

I love this GPS unit. Garmin's blue charts are available to be downloaded onto this unit.

The sales rep at West Marine tried like heck to upsell me to a more expensive chartplotter. But, I like the fact that I have the freedom to hold in my hand to look for something. This is especially helpful when I am in shallow water, or am close to a destination. No need to get a bigger one, unless you want the sounder/fishfinder built into one. The smaller screen is a not a big deal.

Of course, I have a small boat (17' Boston Whaler Montauk) and do not fish too much. Even if I start, I will buy a separate sounder. Since the charts contained in the GPS unit show depth, I have little use for a sounder.
