I have used this headphone for a couple of years now. I can be considered as an amateur audiophile. I must say this headphone is the best I have heard compared to any headphones I have heard before in similar price bracket or more from my own headphone and earphone collections(Beyer dynamic,Grado, Sony, Audio Technica, Shure, Koss etc.) . Having said this, the headphone needs a proper power to drive. Now I use the headphone from my external soundcard M-audio firewire audiophile. I also have several other headphone amps to drive this headphone, including a modified classic Musical Fidelity X-can tube headphone amp with external power supply. The original supplied cable was easy to have trouble, I replace it with the HD650 cable.
The sound is full bodied, clear, crisp but not harsh, excellent bass. For vocal and orchestral music no doubt HD600 is the best one (special fine recorded CDs, dvd-audio, SACD, high res recording etc.). Even for dvd movie HD600 is still one of the best. For the sound characteristic I prefer HD600 than it's replacement model HD650, therefore I did not buy the HD650.
HD600.
